Sri Maddi Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Jangareddygudem

Long ago, during the time of Treta Yuga, when Lord Rama was traversing the forests in search of Sita Devi, it is believed that Sri Hanuman (Anjaneya Swamy) visited this sacred site. The place, then a dense and peaceful forest filled with medicinal trees (Maddi chettu or Ficus benghalensis), was sanctified by Hanuman’s presence. It is said that Lord Hanuman rested under a Maddi tree at this very location after completing a task assigned by Lord Rama.

Later, sages performing penance in this area experienced divine visions of Hanuman and declared the site to be sacred. Over centuries, devotees reported miracles, especially healing of illnesses and protection from evil spirits, which led to the recognition of the place as spiritually potent.

🙏ORIGIN OF THE IDOL
The presiding deity, Sri Maddi Anjaneya Swamy, is a swayambhu (self-manifested) idol that was discovered under a Maddi tree, further strengthening the temple’s association with that divine species of tree. The idol is unique—Hanuman is seen in a meditative form, symbolizing strength, devotion, and calmness. It is believed that the deity here is particularly powerful in warding off evil, granting courage, and fulfilling wishes of devotees, especially in times of distress.

The Maddi tree, under which the idol appeared, gave the temple its name — "Maddi Anjaneya Swamy." It is said that the tree still exists and is venerated as sacred.

⚔️HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT
The temple’s origins date back over 700 years. It is said that local kings and zamindars were instrumental in developing the temple infrastructure after receiving divine blessings from the deity. The temple architecture is simple yet spiritually charged, drawing pilgrims from all over Andhra Pradesh and beyond.

🏛️SIGNIFICANCE OF THE NAME "MADDI"
The term Maddi refers to the sacred banyan or fig tree under which Lord Hanuman is believed to have appeared. This tree is still revered in the temple premises, and devotees tie sacred threads or offer prayers near it, believing their wishes will be fulfilled.
